They most likely originate from laboratory guinea pigs called IAF Hairless, which were a spontaneous mutation of the Pink eyed white Hartley laboratory guinea pigs at the Institut Armand Frappier in Canada in 1978. WebbAnother albino, immunocompetent, hairless mutant strain (Figure 19.11) is commercially available (CRL, 2009). This strain was initially identified in 1978 at the Institute Armand Frappier in Montreal, thus giving the strain the designation of IAF (CRL, 2009). Hairlessness comes from defective hair shafts (Banks, 1989).
